Neal's Work With REM Sleep

I thought this was pretty good? What do you think?
I really can't wait to show you what he is able to do in 3 or 4 months of 'sleeping'.
I came home yesterday to find these worksheets Neal had done with his tutor. This is tough stuff. His tutor always writes on the paper whether he has done the  work by himself. I circled what the tutor commented in red.

  1. Have you doubled his Gb or did you break up the dosage so that he gets the same amount only twice a day?

  2. Ok, GB produces REM sleep. Could you have discovered one of the reasons that our kids are so short? Isn't growth hormone only released during REM sleep?
Also, in this article, memory consolidation occurs during REM sleep. No wonder our kids have memory problems. Think I will start GB tonight!!!!!!

  3. Hi Ms. Cody...This is really amazing stuff. I've always wondered about my daughter's (age 10.5) behavior problems, and the relationship between that and her sleep habits.

Some days great! Very cooperative, laughing, helpful, funny and smart...Then other days...Whew! Stubborn, angry, mean, etc.

Thank you for sharing what seems like an obvious solution to a complicated problem.

  4. This is consistent with what the Stanford guys presented last July in Houston when they said that they found that the DS mice responded to GB (in terms of learning ability) when GB was given in the day time as opposed to night time. Mice are nocturnal animals, which means they sleep in the day time, opposite to humans.
Tresa, I think you have found an answer to their findings!

  5. I don't know if it is THE problem but this could be huge!

  6. I give Neal the same morning dose I have always given, 480mg. Then he gets 240mg at lunch, 120mg after school and 240mg of time-released ginkgo at bedtime. He is doing great! Remember that ginkgo has a 6 hour half life, so half of it will wear off in 6 hours. We are mostly concerned with the Biloba and it has a 3 hour half life.

  7. This may be a dumb question, but this is all very new to me....why not give time released ginkgo twice a day rather than the schedule you have him on now? 480 also seems like more than the 2.5mg per lb recommended dosage, how did you determine what the proper dose for him was?

  8. Hi, my daughter is 5.5 years old and I have been giving her ginkgo all her life (even in the womb). My big problem is that she hates it. It tastes terrible. How do you get your son to take so many supplements? My daughter can't swallow pills yet.

  9. Ginkgo has a half life, so I wanted to have the time-released to give Neal at night. However, I think he needs the full dose in the morning. If I give him the time-released, I don't know if he is ever getting the full dose of 480mg. I arrived at that dose through trial and error. When we first started this (me and about 10 other women) we all tried different dosages. We decided that the very minimum was 2.5 x their weight. Neal gets 6 x his weight and it is optimum for him. I always tell people to give more than that dose on my website.

  10. I started out giving Neal all his meds in a fruit smoothie in the morning. Within 6 months of taking them, he could swallow pills. I would work at getting your child to swallow pills. It makes life a lot easier! Neal complains sometimes, but he knows that it is just the way life is for him now.

  11. I so appreciate all the time you put into research! What brand of time release Gingko do you use?
